Huawei P30 Pro Review Nothing good but the camera Huawei phone disadvantages

「Long龙儿Er小编の話Prologue」There are some users saying Huawei P30pro battery runs fast. Frankly speaking, Huawei this batch phone battery life is ok (can last for a day for normal use) comparing with Huawei P10. The P10 battery can only last for 5 hours per normal use. If playing Pokemon, then it’ll probably die within 1 hour… After 3 months usage, it seems this Huawei P30 pro has nothing proud but the camera. However, the camera technology is from Lycra. Although it takes time to integrate, the one should focus on the basic function as a mobile phone brand. After all, this P30 Pro price is not classified as budget phone. Now let’s take a close look at these annoying quirks.

(The only proud Lycra camera photo taken indoor.)

Quirk 1. Super weak signal behind the wall.

This is definitely the most annoying quirk that I can’t get past! Initially I thought too many apps may slow down the system speed. However, the storage usage is 31.64/256G. Only after 3 months use, Huawei P30 pro starts to lag and fail to load intermittently. It even got stuck when playing online music.

After several tests I found the actual problem is that Huawei phone reception is poor behind the wall because when I squatted next to the router it works well. But the funny thing is I never realised my bedroom signal was weak before using Huawei. If all devices are poor to receive signal, then meaning the wall is really solid and impenetrable. The fact is both Iphone and iMac are using the same signal in the same room and they work properly. Moreover, this “weak signal” is not a few B/s. It’s 200-400k/s, but Huawei still can’t make it.

Quirk 2. Chinese input is dramatically lousy!

Huawei as a Chinese brand, the proficiency of Chinese is not as good as Iphone! See the comparison.

Huawei input doesn’t know any words or phrases, not to mention idioms or old sayings. Users have to install third party input. Here comes the 3rd quirk.

Quirk 3. Keyboards switch disordered.

The default keyboard switch is “default English keyboard – default Chinese (or other languages) keyboard – third party keyboard” as per Iphone logic. However, in Huawei setting, the third party input will take over the default one. Whatever the users have taught the default input must be repeated to the new installed input.

Quirk 4. Too many pre-installed apps which cannot be deleted.

There are total 3 pages of pre-installed google apps which cannot be deleted including youtube, google, play movies, play music and etc. How did Google treat you, Huawei you forget huh? Why do you flatter so much!

Quirk 5. System loading is intermittently slow and content is missing.

This problem happens more in shopping and travel apps and sometimes photo gallery app.

When the users open photo gallery app, it shows loading sometimes. Huawei system is often stuck on a blank or loading page, especially in those apps with many photos or embedded games. Users have to off and on a few times in order to view the content. Even so certain content is still missing most of the time. Eg. the message field shows 7 notifications and 3 messages, but it displays nothing when click in. Testing network speed is 50-238k/s.

Iphone CPU normally try its best to load which may cause the temperature increased. While Huawei acts as an outsider, it just shows a blank page or tell the master “I can’t make it”. It’s like a manager assigns 2 tasks to 2 employees. One will try her/him best to accomplish it by all means while the other one just smugshrug “I’m not capable”. So which employee will you select.

Quirk 6. Type C cable is not compatible.

This quirk is beyond my imagination. I’m not sure what kind of high tech Huawei implemented to its type C cable. Huawei type C cable can neither charge p30pro when connecting to Mac nor Switch.

Even this transfer photos or files function doesn’t work. Mac is not able to read photos in Huawei and the error message is like this.

In Huawei official website, they advise this app called HiSuite. Users need to install this app on Mac. In Huawei, the app is called Huawei Backup. (One app is named differently in different platforms. Speechless!)

After manually connecting Huawei to Mac, then users are able to transfer photos and files. This HiSuite app is badly designed as the photos from different resources are separated in different folders. In IOS, the transfer direction from Iphone to Mac is called “import”, while in Huawei it’s the other way round. In IOS, there is a check box called “delete items after import”, while in HiSuite there is no such function. Users have to choose export path each time after selecting photos and repeat to delete.

The most serious problem is it’s not synchronised. Whatever users deleted in Huawei will not be reflected on Mac. And there is no refresh function in HiSuite. The connection is not stable either. This page often pops up during transfer process.

As a IT monkey, this might not be a serious problem. Yet as an Iphone user, this is definitely not humanized design. In term of understanding customers needs, Huawei still have long long way to go…

Quirk 7. Certain apps are not in play store.

Is this the consequences of the conflict case with google. Certain apps which Samsung can download are not shown in Huawei.

But if the users never use Chinese, then it is not a major problem.

Quirk 8. Brightness auto balancing is not accurate at night.

When the using environment is dark, Huawei brightness will be darker than usual. It’s like before the master sleep, Huawei said good night to you beforehand.

Quirk 9. Cursor is not stable. Right click menu is partial.

By right long press or double click should pop up default menu “select, select all and paste”. However, Huawei long press menu is lack of option (see image above). And Huawei doesn’t have double click function and long press is not stable. Sometimes this right click menu anyhow doesn’t pop up. Then users have to off and on the app to get it work. Since there is no select function, it’s difficult to partial select the text. The cursor will jumps here and there. The keyboard often overlays the bottom submit or confirm button and there is no button to hide the keyboard.

Quirk 10. Screenshot is not smart.

Iphone users can just press 2 buttons together to screenshot while Huawei users have to drag the screenshot shortcut to the dropdown list. Moreover, Iphone users can direct cut and edit screenshots and save the last edited version. However, Huawei must save both the full screenshot and the edited version. Huawei doesn’t seem to know about the minimalism.

Quirk 11. No press to top function.

Iphone users can just tap screen top edge to scroll up to top, but Huawei doesn’t seem to have such function.

Quirk 12. Video play auto rotate even after locking the screen.

When playing landscape video in Huawei, the screen will be auto rotated. Users are not able to view landscape video in portrait way. This is definitely a bug. And this bug is a killer of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder patient.

Quirk 13. To be continued…
